Mistake #1: Neglecting the Power of SEO

Many content producers purposefully avoid SEO (Search Engine Optimization). There could be millions of reasons for that, but the most important one that we know of is the time and effort it takes. But since you are reading this, you are already set out for not making that mistake. Neglecting SEO is like opening a store in a ghost town. Maybe you got the best products, but there is no one to see them. So starting today, do keyword research that your potential customers are searching for. Optimize your content with those keywords naturally and let’s attract new quality leads.

Mistake #2: Making Your Content Hard To Read

Imagine searching for a simple answer to a simple question and someone writing it in Victorian English. What are your plans? You will either decide to read it until you get it or move on to something else that does not require that many times of reading. When that thing you are writing is not that much readable, your readers pretty much do the same. Avoid using jargon or overly complex language in your content. Keep it simple and write like you are talking to a friend at a coffee shop. Your customers will like it as well as Google.

Mistake #3: Not Being Social

Social media marketing is your biggest helper when you are a content marketer. But if you are posting and posting but not talking to your fans, we will take it that you are Ellen DeGeneres. Don’t be on social media if you can’t be social. But that is the best way to promote your content. Exactly. It is like hosting a party and being so busy that your guests think you are rude. And then your guests will start to wonder why they attended your party in the first place. Likewise, your audience on social media will think that you are not worthy of their time. That is why it is important to reply to the comments, ask questions to your audience, and create a community on your social media pages. After all, it is called ‘ social’ media for a reason.

Mistake #4: Neglecting The Power of Visuals

“An image is worth a thousand shares, likes, and comments”- it is the new norm now when you are a content creator. You would make a huge mistake if you neglect visuals in your content strategy. We are not telling you to slap a stock of photos on your blog and leave it at that. We are telling you to invest in eye-catching infographics, videos, and photographs. Visuals grab your audience’s attention; so, always make sure to include them in your content.

Mistake #5: Missing The Points in YouTube Videos

It’s already great that you have finally decided to create your own YouTube channel. But don’t be one of those self-obsessed video creators who forget that their audience is even there waiting for something valuable. There are many channels on YouTube that talk about cringe-worthy things like how many people they have dated, what their cats do when they see dogs, the breakfast they eat, etc, etc. These things are cool and all, but they don’t serve the audience well. Your audience is watching your videos because they want information, entertainment, inspiration, or a good laugh. If your YouTube videos don’t serve their needs, it is just a ‘MeTube’ platform.

Mistake #6: Overlooking Consistency

Consistency is not just for dating couples and bodybuilders; consistency is vital in content marketing too. Posting irregularly won’t make you to the top but link building strategy in a right way can make a big changes . Your content is a TV show that you cannot just air randomly. If you do, your audience will miss half of the episodes. You will have to set a schedule and stick to it. It could be once a week, or once a month. Consistency will help you build trust among your audience and they will keep coming back for more.

Mistake #7: Neglecting Analytics

Okay, we know that analytics is sort of boring, but neglecting it will be the costliest of all the mistakes you can make as a content creator. All we say is that don’t drive a car blindfolded— when you are creating content and sharing it with your audience without tracking the performance, it is the same case. Use Google Analytics to know what is working, and it will also tell you what is not working so you can rectify that. Any analytics tool shows you the data regarding your page views, click-through rates, and conversion rates if not accurately, on average. The data you get from analytics will help you refine your content strategy and help you serve your audience right.

Conclusion

These are the 7 content marketing mistakes that might be costing you a big time. But you should not beat yourself about it at all. Everyone makes mistakes but what is more important is what you are learning from them. We think content marketing is a bit like dating. You will have to get to know your audience, engage in meaningful conversations, make them laugh, and be consistent throughout. So, don’t delay the process anymore, go there and make yourself known by creating amazing content.
