Reports suggest that Prince William, the heir to the British throne, is already considering the future of the monarchy when he eventually ascends to the throne. This includes decisions regarding his estranged brother, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle.
The rift between the brothers has been ongoing for several years, exacerbated by Prince Harry’s autobiography Spare. In the book, Harry detailed personal conflicts, including an alleged physical altercation with William during a heated argument at Kensington Palace. The couple’s decision to step back from their royal duties nearly four years ago marked a significant turning point, as they chose to relocate to California to pursue independent projects, such as partnerships with streaming platforms like Netflix.
A source, speaking to the Express, indicated that Prince William’s vision for the future does not include a prominent role for Harry and Meghan in the royal fold. According to the insider, “William is already making plans for his reign and does not foresee the Sussexes playing an active role in the Royal Family. The general consensus is that allowing them back into the royal circle would not be beneficial, and they are likely to remain on the periphery indefinitely.”
Last week, the brothers were both in attendance at a memorial service honoring their late uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes. It was the first time they had been seen together since King Charles’ coronation, but reports suggest that their interactions were minimal. The event, held in Norfolk, saw them standing only a few yards apart, yet they reportedly did not engage in conversation.
This strained dynamic appears to show little sign of improvement, with William reportedly standing firm on his position regarding his brother and sister-in-law’s future in the monarchy.
