Elon Musk has been in the news recently for many reasons. However, this latest news could mean that he may be losing the Chinese EV market to a local EV production company. We woke up to the news that a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) company called Zeekr, has recently claimed that its EV batteries can charge cars faster than those of its competitors. Its competitors include Tesla, which is owned by Elon Musk. This new development in battery technology places Zeekr as a serious rival to Tesla in the EV market, especially in the Chinese region where it has long been a leader in innovation.

Should Elon Musk be afraid of Zeekr?

Zeekr is a relatively new player in the EV industry, but its rapid technological advancements are making waves, especially among passionate China-based EV fans. Tesla, led by Elon Musk, is known for its dominance in the EV Battery Charger market and it has gone on to produce some of the most fancy and sleek electric cars in the world. For Tesla, having a strong competitor like Zeekr not only highlights the increasing competitiveness in the EV market but also presents a challenge to stay ahead of new innovations. These particularly include the EV battery technology, which is a very important factor when it comes to EV performance.

What Economic Trends Are Shaping the Year 2026?

What you need to know about the new battery technology from Zeekr

Zeekr’s new battery technology is remarkable for its amazing charging speed. The company claims that its battery can charge an electric car from 10% to 80% within just 10 minutes. The battery has a charging capacity of about 800 volts. This is what makes the Zeekr EV battery capable of extremely fast energy transfer to your car. This significant improvement in charging time is especially beneficial for EV Battery Charger users who are concerned about long charging duration at public charging stations. Zeekr was founded in 2021 as part of Geely, which is a Chinese car making company. They are responsible for several well-known car brands such as Volvo.

How Tesla superchargers measure up to Zeekr battery chargers

By comparison, Tesla’s fastest charging stations, known as Superchargers, can charge a Tesla vehicle from 10% to 80% in just about 20 minutes. Tesla’s Superchargers have a charging capacity of up to 250 kW. Although Tesla vehicles take longer to charge when compared to Zeekr’s new technology, they can still cover impressive distances once fully charged. For instance, a fully charged Tesla Model S can travel up to 405 miles (652 kilometers) on a single charge – which is a very decent performance for people looking for an extra juice for a long journey.

When will buyers enjoy the new Zeekr car model with this EV battery?

The first model from Zeekr to be fitted with this new ultra-fast charging battery will be the Zeekr 007 sedan. This new model will be available for purchase later this year. The price of the Zeekr 007 sedan is estimated to start at around $45,000. This price point makes it competitive with other luxury EVs, including Tesla’s Model 3, which starts at around $40,000.
