Commitment to Protecting Development Initiatives

The World Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that its projects in Uganda are not adversely impacted by the country’s recent enactment of an anti-LGBT law. The international financial institution has expressed concerns about the law’s potential effects on human rights and inclusive development in the region.

In response to the controversial legislation, the World Bank stated that it would take steps to protect its initiatives in Uganda, focusing on maintaining support for essential infrastructure and development projects. The organization stressed the importance of aligning its work with the principles of inclusion, equality, and non-discrimination.
